Why coolant matters

Engine coolant (antifreeze) prevents your engine from overheating in summer and freezing in winter. Over time it loses its corrosion inhibitors and can become acidic, which damages the water pump, radiator, and heater core. A neglected cooling system is one of the top causes of expensive engine damage.

Signs your cooling system needs attention

  • Temperature gauge running hotter than normal
  • Coolant warning light
  • Sweet smell from the engine bay (coolant leak)
  • Visible green, orange, or pink puddles under the vehicle
  • Overheating in traffic or on hills
  • Heater not blowing hot air in winter
  • Coolant level dropping repeatedly

When to flush your coolant

Most manufacturers recommend a coolant flush every 5 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first. Some long-life formulas go longer. Check your owner's manual or ask us. The cost of a flush is far less than the cost of a failed water pump or warped cylinder head.
